Brief History of Christ Church Brittany

There is now a growing Anglican presence in Brittany - Roger and Beri Fray were given a vision to come and work here on a full-time, permanent basis and moved to Brittany in October 1999

Others have responded to this vision, both here and in the UK, and support the work by prayer, and financially.

In October 2000 the Roman Catholic Bishop of Vannes arranged for us to have a splendid room in the Maison Mere des Freres in Ploermel in central Brittany where we meet for worship every Sunday.

The location could hardly be more favourable being set overlooking a large elegant garden just off the centre of the small town of Ploermel. If you are not sure where Ploermel is, it is on the junction of the N24 (east-west route) and the N166 (north-south route).

Roger was appointed Chaplain to the Brittany congregations by the Bishop of the Diocese on Europe, Beri was licensed as a reader as was Robin Hillman who also acts as our treasurer.

The chaplaincy is part of the ICS-Intercontinental Church Society- an Anglican Mission society which places chaplains around the world to minister to English speakers.

The chaplaincy is also fortunate to have the assistance of the Rev John Marvell, a retired priest who has made his home in the north of Brittany and became our honorary assistant chaplain in January 2002.

As well as the core congregationin Ploermel there is a growing congregation in Nantes, not strictly in Brittany but counted in this chaplaincy and now Guerlesquin. All of Brittany and a bit more is our parish.

You are very welcome to come to our services which will make you very much at home in Brittany, whether on holiday or living at your permanent home, and in the case of Ploermel to join us for lunch after the service at the chaplain's home

There is much more to Christ Church, Ploermel than service at 11a.m. Just as you would expect there are the support activities you should find in any Anglican parish. More unusually there is also a English language library of popular fiction open every Thursday afternoon, plus a few serious books.

Roger and Beri Fray live just to the south of Ploermel and are best contacted by e-mail at:
